Dan Conrath - Managing Director

Dan began his working career marketing commodity trading software to corporations before entering the financial arena with Paine Webber in 1989. At Paine Webber he gained a strong working knowledge of commodity markets and particularly the benefits and intricacies of options as a hedging instrument. He became a partner in RMI in 1992. Since that point he has been involved in every aspect of executing price risk management programs for corporate and utility accounts.


  • Over the past 18 years, Dan has been instrumental in fostering and augmenting RMI’s market analysis and brokerage group. Dan oversees all RMI market-related functions.
  • Dan works directly with RMI clients to determine the best purchasing/hedge strategy given market conditions, the client’s objectives, load requirements, regulatory restrictions, and the client’s procedural guidelines. He has significant practical experience in guiding energy organizations on the best application of risk management methodologies for their respective cultures and risk tolerances.
  • Dan is a lead on projects and for on-going consulting arrangements. He advises on the construction of pricing guidelines and the application and proper utilization of pricing tools.
  • Dan led municipal risk management advisory projects regarding risk assessment, measurement and mitigation for the following clients: Northern California Power Agency, Orlando Utilities Commission, City of Tallahassee, PowerSouth Energy Cooperative, Southern Mississippi Electric Power Association, Tennergy, CPS Energy (San Antonio), as well as several Northeastern municipalities.
  • Has presented risk management topics to the Illinois Commerce Commission and the City Council of San Antonio.
  • Dan has been a guest speaker on the topic of energy risk management for several associations, including Association of Energy Engineers, Association of Professional Energy Consultants, Calumet Area Industrial Association, Florida Natural Gas Association, Midwest Cogeneration Association, Southern Gas Association, and Tennessee Gas Association.
